Dental Implants

If you are missing one or more of your teeth, dental implants offer the best solution to restore your smile. At Murphy Dental Home, we take pride in providing quality dental restorations using the most advanced technology and techniques. We look forward to helping you enjoy a healthy, beautiful smile for years to come.

Dental Implants Overview

A dental implant is a screw-like titanium post that we surgically place directly into your jawbone to recreate the root structure of your missing or extracted tooth. Your implant can then be attached to a variety of restorations such as crowns, bridges, or even full dentures.

Dental implants have a 95% success rate and can last for a lifetime with proper care. Since implants are a permanent addition to your smile, they will require no extra maintenance other than your regular dental care routine at home.

The Dental Implant Advantage

Missing teeth, over time, can become a significant threat to your oral health. When a tooth is missing, the jawbone in the area starts to deteriorate, which can cause the remaining teeth to shift and misalign, leading many problems including jaw pain. Dental implants are the only restorations available that will preserve your bone because they take the place of your natural tooth roots.

Dental implants are the best alternatives to healthy, natural teeth. Other restorations such as dentures may lead to bone loss and unlike implants, may interfere with eating, speaking, and smiling. With implants, you won’t need to worry about the slipping or abrasion that often come with traditional dentures. Your new restorations will look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth.

Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the best restorations for patients missing one or more of their teeth, or for those missing a full upper or lower set of teeth. Candidates for implants will need to be in good overall and oral health, along with having sufficient bone mass to support an implant. If, however, you have bone loss, you can still receive dental implants with the help of bone grafting.

What Is the Implant Procedure?

The implant procedure is minor, usually requiring only local anesthesia. The first step is surgically placing your implant into your jawbone. The healing process will take a few months, during which the implant will fuse to your bone in a process called osseointegration.

Once your healing is complete, we will screw on a connector called an abutment into your dental implant. After your soft tissue heals, we will make impressions of your mouth to use for constructing your replacement tooth known as a crown, which is made to look like your natural teeth.

Once your crown is ready, we will attach it to the abutment. If you are replacing more than one tooth, we will restore your teeth using implant-supported bridges or dentures. The entire process will take a few months to complete while waiting for healing to take place.
